Recipe 10 : Lontong

So,as I mentioned in earlier post, here is a simple version of lontong by me.Of course there is a harder version, adding all sort of spices that I don't know of ,but rest assured, this one recipe still tastes the same!

Ingredients
One inch of tumeric(kunyit)
One inch of ginger(halia)
2 big onions
2 red onions
A few of garlic
Tempe sausage
Tauhu*
1-2 red carrots
Cabbage
Long beans
Prawns
Puchuk and suun*
Coconut milk(can also substitute with ordinary milk)
Cube rice*
Sambal ikan bilis*

*Mostly found in Malaysia, hehe, not sure if can be found anywhere else.

How to
1.Soak puchuk and suun in hot water until soft
2.Blend tumeric,red onion,onion,ginger,and garlic
3.In the meantime, cut the vegetables in any shape you like
4.Put the blended ingredients in the pot, stir well for a few minutes.
5.And then add coconut milk and adjust the volume by adding water if necessary.
6.Let it boil and add hard vegetables first like long beans and carrots.
7.Lastly,add the remaining ingredients, stir well and it's ready(Let everything cooked for 15 to 25 minutes)
8.Serve with rice cube and sambal ikan bilis.

Fuh,it doesn't sound that easy,anyway :P
But,trust me,it's the easiest of all lontong recipes available.

Happy cooking!

2012 Eid Day 1

Salam guys,
After a week of raya break,I could finally blog again!
I still accessed to internet from my iphone during this period of time, but no real internet at home.
In fact, who bothers to update a lot of stuff online when raya was just too much fun?:P

Alhamdulillah,I have finished my one week of raya holiday with family and friends.
My raya this year was a bit hectic,as I spent days with my family in Kota Bharu, and on fourth day of raya,we drove all the way to Penang to visit my relatives there, plus many invitations to friends' weddings.

First day of raya was always the best as I got to eat a lot of typical malay raya dishes, including lemang, ketupat, rendang, sate, kuah kacang and so on.

On second day,I cooked lontong/lodeh and for the first time after 4 years,I baked chocolate cake again,or I'd rather say steamed it,as I was always bad at baking.Always failed ,but not this time.

As for the outfit,on first day,I opted for typical baju kurung. For me,baju kurung is a must.No matter how fashionable and modern raya outfits have become, baju kurung will never go out of time.

More raya stories coming up soon!

P/s:I will announce the winner of my first give-away in the next entry.

Till then.

Recipe 9 : Prawn Aglio e Olio

It's been quite a gap of time since last time I posted my simple recipe here. And during Ramadhan,I see many food pictures posted everywhere,be it on instagram, facebook,or twitter.

It's undeniable that in Malaysia we are spoilt with so many options, like food from Ramadhan bazaar, buffet at restaurants and hotels, and the best part is,our moms' cookings.

I'm normally not a picky type of person when it comes to food, but I tried to avoid from buying food too often.

So,last weekend,I cooked Prawn Aglio e Olio,a very very simple pasta dish,for pasta cravers.What more,it's a healthy menu for a dieter like me :P

So,here is the ingredients and recipe.

Ingredients

Spaghetti angle hair
Olive oil
Garlic and red onion(chopped)
Dried chillis
Button mushrooms
Prawns(peel half of the shells and veins and keep these for prawn stock)
Salt and black pepper
Hot water
Chicken cube stock

How to

1.Cook the angel hair until al dente
2.In the meantime, saute the prawn for few minutes in a frying pan
3.Boil the prawn shells and heads for making prawn stock
4.Also boil the button mushrooms until soft and when they're soft, cut into small pieces
5.Also don't forget to soak the dried chillis in hot water for a couple of minutes
6.When everything is ready, the last step is to prepare the spaghetti
7.Firstly,pour olive oil in a frying pan and saute garlic and red onion for a few minutes
8.Then add the prawn stock,Chicken cube stock and salt.
9.Mix well, add dried chillis and mushrooms
10.Later put the spaghetti, mix well, and add the sauted prawns.
11.Lastly,season with black pepper and ready!

Casual Sunday

Salam guys,
How have you been?Today is the 18th day of Ramadhan, and how is your fasting routine so far?Alhamdulillah,I have been given another chance to fast in this holy month, and let's hope we'll have more chances in the coming years.

Although last weekend I only spent it alone,as my friend/photographer was out of town, and my housemate was gone to visit her family,so breaking fast for 3 days alone wasn't the best time of my life :(

I went shopping on Sunday, and on Monday went to Ikea to find some stuff for my room. Here is a very casual sunday look by me.

And,there's a good news for you guys. I'll be doing a give-away this week, either on Thursday or Friday. So,stay tuned!
